The Reason Behind Writing This Book

The rapid evolution of digital technologies has confronted urban societies with unprecedented challenges and opportunities. In this context, projects capable of both addressing citizens’ needs and offering a structured approach to navigating the complexities of urban management hold significant strategic value.

This book is the result of both scientific and practical efforts to document one of the first comprehensive local initiatives in the field of smart cities in Iran—specifically in Tabriz: a project known as “Shahr Online.”

The purpose of writing this book is not only to share a successful technological experience, but also to illustrate a process that began with ideation, advanced through cycles of trial and error, and ultimately culminated in the creation of a digital platform for delivering urban services.
